CBD Oil: What Exactly Is It?

You might be thinking, “sure, all this sounds great, but what exactly is CBD”?

Let’s dive right in…

For anyone not well-versed in this compound, CBD stands for Cannabidiol – which is one of the cannabinoid molecules found in marijuana. But don’t be alarmed. While marijuana remains the most well-known form of cannabis, CBD oil is extracted from the drug’s much milder and more medicinal relative – hemp.

Backed by nearly 1,000 years of medicinal use, as well as the FDA who “support the rigorous scientific medical research of marijuana, cannabis and hemp-derived products” – CBD oil is best known for its healing properties.

It is crucial to note that CBD does not contain any THC, which is the chemical responsible for making people feel “high”. Instead, CBD possesses a unique trinity of anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties – making it perfect for addressing a multitude of ailments.

What Are the Benefits of CBD?

In this life, we have human rights: to safety, to freedom, and to making a life of our own. But little has been said to address the fundamental underpinning of these rights: peace.

Peace is not a side-effect of a happy life; it is the fundamental basic necessity in order to live a happy life. Life by its very nature is a volatile experience, replete with illness, anguish, stress, pain and suffering, but from a peaceful state – we can achieve the calmness and stability to live life on our own fulfilling terms.

CBD oil has been known for thousands of years to help encourage and promote the uptake of critical neuroreceptors that are necessary for our happiness and mood stability. A daily routine that includes CBD can make both your mind and body conducive to a calm peaceful and overall healthy state.

Here are just 7 possible benefits of using CBD:

CBD for anxiety

Manage Anxiety and Stress

The prevalence of general anxiety disorder and rising rates of anxiety in general, indicates that life in the modern world involves consistently being ambushed with stressors. It could be your stressful job, financial worries, or grief – but always being on high alert, in a fight-or-flight response can wreak havoc on your physical body as well as your mental tenacity. CBD oil allows your mind and body to calm down and relax – so that you no longer feel fear or dread and can take on life’s stressors with relative ease.

CBD for reducing impulsiveness

Reduce Impulsive Behavior

Impulsivity looks different in different people. For some, it looks like eating a whole pack of cookies, for others it means shopping sprees, and for some it means lashing out at your friends or family whenever life is wearing you down. CBD oil helps you recalibrate, so that you can remain centered in all your decisions and behaviors. With consistent use, you will find that you won’t react as quickly to something that upsets you, which helps your body avoid the harmful cortisol or adrenaline surges that come with being an anxious and reactive person.

CBD for pain relief

Pain Relief

You may or may not know of the opioid addiction epidemic here in the US – but it’s clear that conventional pain relief medication is taking its toll on people suffering with acute or chronic pain. With these meds, the body builds up a tolerance very quickly, and people resort to taking stronger and stronger doses which do little to curb the pain and instead destroy their livers. Luckily, CBD has been used to treat pain as far back as 2900 B.C. When you see medicinal marijuana being used to treat pain, it’s the CBD contained within it that has the pain relieving properties.

CBD Oil for Depression

Help Manage Depression

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is the single largest contributor to disability around the world. It is clear, then, that conventional methods of dealing with this mental health issue have not been particularly effective. Plus, medication used for depression often comes with a whole host of undesired side effects, such agitation, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, and migraines. CBD oil has shown promising results as a potential treatment for depression and has even been used to safely treat insomnia and anxiety in children with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

CBD for sleep

Reduce Cancer Treatment Side-Effects

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), approximately 39.5% of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes. This statistic is not to be taken lightly. CBD may help reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, as well as the pain both associated with the illness itself, and its treatment.

CBD for Anxiety and Worry

Neuroprotective Properties

Perhaps the most studied use for CBD is in treating neurological disorders like epilepsy and multiple sclerosis (MS). Though research in this area is still in its infancy, several studies have shown promising results. For example, Sativex, an oral spray consisting of CBD, has been proven to be both a safe and effective way to reduce muscle spasticity in people with MS.

CBD Oil for Improved Skincare

Improve Skin Issues Including Acne and Anti-Aging

Though it’s best to consult with your dermatologist for any skin related issues, CBD may help reduce overall inflammation in the body. This means CBD oil can offer benefits for the management of acne. This was confirmed in a human study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, which found that CBD can regulate the skin’s sebaceous glands. CBD also has antioxidant properties, which helps lessen the visible signs of aging.

How Safe is CBD?

While you’ve been learning of the many benefits that our CBD oil has to offer, you may be wondering about the mechanisms behind CBD as well as its safety – and we’re here to demystify and cut through all the noise for you. Are you aware that you have a complex endocannabinoid system that affects your brain, skin, heart, eyes, stomach – and even your mood? There’s a good reason humankind has been fascinated with cannabis for thousands of years.

Our bodies produce our own cannabinoids for this endocannabinoid system, but sometimes a little boost is all we need to achieve wonderous results in body and in mind. This is why CBD is so effective for treating such a wide range of ailments and promoting so many health benefits.

Generally, once CBD has been extracted from the plant, it is diluted with a carrier such as olive or coconut oil – improving its bioavailability.

Perhaps the main role of the endocannabinoid system lies in controlling levels of inflammation in the body by regulating immune response. An overactive immune system can often trigger allergies and even the development of auto-immune diseases. On the other hand, an underactive response can foster a favorable environment for the growth of cancer cells, as well as making the body vulnerable to infections. It is crucial, then, to maintain a healthy endocannabinoid system.

Can You Get “High” on Hemp-Based CBD Products?

It might be bad news for some of you to learn that CBD cannot make you high. But for the vast majority of you – you’ll be relieved to learn this fact.

Let us explain…

Cannabis is a plant most people associate with the popular recreational drug marijuana, and that explains the apprehension towards buying CBD products at all. However, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) which is just one type of cannabinoid.

There are a total of 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Most cannabis available for recreational use is intentionally bred to contain high levels of THC with only small concentrations of CBD.

CBD is another type of cannabinoid from the cannabis plant. As a non-psychoactive compound, it does not produce any kind of buzz, let alone any kind of high.

Any medicinal properties from the cannabis plant come from CBD – which has shown promising and positive results in everything from alleviating anxiety, depression, and chronic stress, to reducing inflammation in both humans and animals.

You can rest assured that you will not come anywhere close to a psychoactive high. Not only that, but CBD will not show up on any drug tests.

If you’re worried about whether or not CBD products fall within the confines of the law, the answer is yes, of course. In fact, CBD oil, derived from hemp, and not marijuana – is legal in all 50 states.

At Alurell, our products come with a Certificate of Analysis to prove they’re tested for the presence of harmful substances so you can feel good about choosing our CBD products, every time.

Can I Take CBD While Taking Other Medications and Supplements?

It is recommended that you discuss all medicines and supplements that you may be taking, whether over-the-counter meds or prescription meds, with your primary care doctor. They will advise you on any potential interactions that can occur between CBD oil and your prescriptions.

Pain relief drugs that you may use for various ailments, such as NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory drugs), Tramadol, or anxiety relief all rely on the same group of liver enzymes that CBD relies on. This does not mean that you should not take CBD, it just means you should be calculated and careful in your dosage so as not to overwhelm your body’s filtering system.

Additionally, if you’re worried about dosing your CBD oil, we recommend that you take your prescriptions at least 2 hours before or after taking any CBD.

That being said, not all drug interactions are an issue. In fact, some interactions can be favorable.

CBD can often enhance the effects of certain medications, which means you can administer a lower dose of that specific medication, this is a good thing for your overall health.

This is certainly the case for drugs that are used to treat seizures. Since CBD promotes its own anti-seizure properties, it may work well as a complementary treatment.

Additionally, people who are undergoing chemotherapy for various cancers often suffer many unwanted side effects. CBD oil can curb some of these side effects and make you feel more restored and rejuvenated.

How Do I Choose the Best CBD Product?

When choosing a CBD product for your personal use, there is one key question to keep in mind: is this product derived from marijuana or hemp?

Some manufacturers of CBD oil may use CBD derived from marijuana; in which case the answer is unclear. Not only are the legal lines blurred, but this type of CBD may have unwanted effects – particularly if you’re actively avoiding any potentially psychoactive substances.

That’s why at Alurell, we’ve done the due diligence for you. When you buy our products, you can rest assured that not only are the products good for your body and mind, but they are also entirely legal, highly regulated, and safe. When you buy our products, you’re only getting the most superior standard of CBD Oil available on the market today. Let’s get to the fine details…

Alurell full spectrum “Happy Human” CBD oil is infused with natural MCT Oil to comprise a tincture with less than 0.03% THC – a negligible amount in other words. As a non-psychoactive CBD oil, derived from hemp grown in Oregon – each 30ml bottle is made with all-natural ingredients in our FDA-approved facility, following rigorous GMP regulations. Our Happy Human oil contains the full-plant extract, with natural cannabinoids and terpenes to encourage its full effects and benefits. For your pets, please choose a broad-spectrum CBD oil for dogs or CBD oil for cats that is safer for your furry family.

To make the CBD go down easily, the CBD oil is delivered through a pipette dropper. It is usually taken under the tongue to help absorption. This could be somewhat difficult for some people with a sensitive palate, in which case different methods could easily be utilized to make it better for you.

You can add the oil to your favorite snacks, to help them go down as a treat. Plus, at roughly 10 calories per drop, even the most diet-conscious people can successfully incorporate CBD oil as part of a healthy balanced diet.

Each 30ml bottle contains 500mg of hydrocarbon extracted CBD – to provide rapid, safe, and effective relief for people of all shapes and sizes. Our CBD is also gluten-free, corn-free, and grain-free, so you don’t have to worry about allergies. It’s also vegan, vegetarian, and non-dairy to suit your lifestyle.

And what’s more? Our extraction process is heavily regulated, ensuring total purity with no unnecessary filler or chemical colorants. With no GMOs, we ensure that we maintain a sweetly symbiotic relationship with the farms from which we source our plants.

How Much CBD Oil Should I Take?

Taking CBD oil with dropper

First thing’s first, the World Health Organization (WHO) has found CBD to be generally well tolerated, with a good safety profile – so you can cast aside any apprehension.

Although safe, it is recommended that you begin your new CBD oil regimen at a relatively low dose. This is of course the same rule you would apply to any new potent supplement you might take.

Just like with most things, a one-dose-fits-all approach does not apply to supplementing CBD, and it is rarely advised. After all, everybody is different – our unique physical and chemical makeup dictate our individual experiences.

If you start with a modest dose, you can gradually increase it to gauge the sweet spot at which you feel that you receive the maximum benefits without using up your supply to quickly.

One drop is approximately 0.05 ml, this is not a full dropper just a single drop. All you have to do is determine how many mg you need.

If you’re taking CBD for pain relief, you should receive your calculated dose approximately every 8 hours, or as needed with sufficient time in between doses, at least initially.

If you suffer with anxiety or other mental health disturbances, your dose should be administered once or twice a day after the initial introductory phase.

As an alternative medicine for long-term use, you may need to gradually increase the dosage to maintain the same positive effects.

And if you’re worried about potentially overdosing, you should know that there is no toxicity related to CBD, so this is simply impossible to achieve. At worst, you might feel lethargic, drowsy, or nauseous. These symptoms will not last long, and they’re the same kind of symptoms you would associate with overeating, so they’re essentially harmless.

At worst, you may have side effects in the introductory phase – like a dry mouth, light-headedness, drowsiness, an upset stomach, or increased appetite. These side effects are just like any you would normally expect, and are rare. Once your metabolism adjusts to your dosage, any side effects should cease.

How Long Does CBD Oil Take to Work?

Every person has their own unique disposition, and they respond differently to CBD oil. For this reason, we encourage you to start slow and start small.

On average, it takes about 30 minutes to notice therapeutic effects. That being said, you should always observe the effects of the CBD on your body after taking it for the first time. If you exhibit any signs of a negative reaction, do not be alarmed – simply reduce the dosage for the next time.

Generally, if you administer the CBD oil drops directly into your mouth, you can expect to allow 20-60 minutes before effects will be noticed. If you choose to put the drops in your food, you can expect to allow more time from 45 – 90 minutes before effects can be noticed.

If issues are long-term or chronic, it can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to see optimal results.

We’ve discovered that the CBD oil absorbs best when taken on an empty stomach. So, make sure you try to administer the dose with this in mind.

CBD Research Studies: What Does Science Say?

Though we’ve backed up our claims with citations from peer-reviewed scientific journals such as PubMed, there are a plethora of studies that exist to confirm CBD’s potent and positive effects on both the mind and body.

Below are several other studies to lend more credence to the use of CBD oil for medicinal treatment. You can click the links to take you directly to the journals.

  • Antipsychotic effects: This study suggests that CBD may help people with schizophrenia and other mental disorders by reducing their psychotic symptoms, and indeed acting as an antipsychotic medicine.
  • Anti-tumor effects: In both test-tube and animal studies, CBD has shown quite promising anti-tumor effects. In animals in particular, it has been shown to prevent the spread of breast, prostate, brain, colon, and lung cancer.
  • Diabetes Prevention: CBD was shown to reduce the incidence of diabetes in diabetic mice by 56%, as well as significantly reducing inflammation.

This is not an exhaustive or definitive list, it is just a few of the many scientific studies that have been conducted in this area. The rest can be found with a simple google search.

So, there we have it.

We’re not claiming to have a miracle product, that would be unnecessary. After all, the benefits of CBD oil speak for themselves.
